There’s a category of greeting cards called “thinking of you.” The printed sentiments are in the range of “though many miles separate us, you’re in my thoughts.”
If you’re like me, you may have noticed that you might think of a friend or family member and wonder how he or she is doing. And then move on to something else.
My friend Cindy tells me she wishes a light bulb would turn on every time she thinks of me. So I think of her when I switch on my desk lamp.
And my Aunt Winona (the hero of my June 24 post) told me that her grandmother used to say, “If thoughts were letters, you would have one every day.”
Winona and two of her sisters lived out of state from their mom (my grandmother Elizabeth). The three sisters were oh so faithful about writing to her each week. I’d pick up the mail for my grandmother and I can still recall how her face would light up if the day’s mail contained a letter from one of them. No matter what Grandmother was doing, she’d stop to read the letter immediately.
So I’m on a mission to do better at taking time to reach out to people that I miss and do indeed think about.
What if…I used just five minutes of each week to call, email, text, send an e-card, or send a snail mail card or letter to someone? And what if just ONE of my readers did the same thing? Doing the easy math, that would make over 100 people whose lives were brightened or spirits encouraged from a five minute time commitment from two people.
Consider joining me in making this a MID-year resolution on July 1st.
Who needs to wait for January 1st to make a NEW Year’s resolution?
Because who can’t spare five minutes a week?
Oh Norma! What a wonderful idea!!! I am with you all the way on this.
Thanks for chiming in! You know that I truly appreciate all feedback. Miss you!
Norma:
I have learned from my Christian Walk, that whenever The Holy Spirit places someone on my mind, the first thing that I do is pray for that person and then contact them. That is how I diagnosed Betty’s stroke on the morning of November 15th. I want no glory for that, but being obedient to The Holy Spirit’s urging, sure made me glad that I called her. Yes, indeed it may have saved her life, but we may never know, and that’s not the important lesson to be learned. Mom used to tell us to think of “OTHERS” first, and the rest will fall in line.

I can just hear Rosalie saying that.
Great idea!
Really enjoying your messages
Barb, thanks so much. Feedback is appreciated more than you can know.
I do that every week for my aunt who is housebound. She always looks forward to the mail on Wed. And says it brightens her day. She is in New York so too far away for many visits. It tis a great idea and I will add to my “thinking of you ” . By the way, I’m thinkingnof you each time I do this.nancy
And of course I think of you as I see “the bears” each day!
